APT Skidata – the UK's leading parking technologies provider – has won a substantial new contract to upgrade the parking systems at The O2 Centre to further enhance the visitor experience to the Finchley Road retail and leisure complex. The car park upgrade follows the purchase of the prime London location by Land Securities last year.

The 10.5 acre site houses a 300,000 sq ft centre, which is anchored by a Sainsbury's foodstore. It is a busy retail location with significant leisure attractions, including restaurants and an eight-screen Vue cinema. The surface car park, comprising parking for some 518 cars, will benefit from new APT Skidata barriers at the two entry and two exit points, four Easy.Cash pay stations and one Credit.Cash unit to facilitate faster card transactions.

According to Nigel Young of APT Skidata, one of the prime drivers for Land Securities opting for this technology is the unrivalled performance of APT Skidata's new ‘Traffic Jam' mode: “In ‘Traffic Jam' mode, tickets can be issued in less than half a second and it is extremely effective at handling high volumes of traffic at peak periods. Visitors can avoid queues, getting in and out of the car park more quickly and with less disruption – which all contributes to the overall visitor experience.”

The APT Skidata technology will be run on the latest Park.Logic software platform, which will allow Land Securities to make maximum use of the advanced data and reporting available within the management information (MI) system. Installation work is planned for completion this Summer.
