APT SKIDATA DELIVERS A SMOOTH PARKING EXPERIENCE IN GLASGOW

APT Skidata, the UK's leading parking technology specialist, has upgraded five parking sites in Glasgow for City Parking (Glasgow) LLP with a combination of the latest hardware and software technologies – integrated with existing security and safety systems – to enhance the visitor experience at car parks throughout the city.

City Parking (Glasgow) LLP manages several of Glasgow's off-street parking sites and has been refurbishing and updating the facilities since Glasgow City Council transferred the operation to the company in 2007. City Parking (Glasgow) was tasked with improving the parking facilities across the city, and turned to APT Skidata again for support as Wayne Myrden, Operations Manager at City Parking (Glasgow), explains:

“We had worked with APT Skidata previously and two years ago installed a range of its technology that enabled us to centralise the control of all of our car park systems in one place. With new systems being developed, we wanted to give visitors to our car parks even greater choice, especially in terms of payment, and in particular the role that Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology could play in further improving the visitor experience.”

The newly installed technology is based around the proven APT 450 range using industry-standard software (Windows XP and SQL7 database). The parking control system allows multiple ID devices to be recognised and mapped as the controlling device for season and contract parkers, together with advanced pre-payment or delayed post-payment options facilitated by ANPR.

Nigel Young, Business Development Director at APT Skidata, says that Wayne and his team are true thought-leaders: “Visitors to a City Parking (Glasgow) site can now create an on-line account where parking fees are automatically calculated post-visit, using ANPR to monitor their time of arrival/departure. A family or a business, for example, can now set up an account with the car park for all of their vehicles and payments charged to the one account at the end of the month.”

As well as the flexibility and fairness of the new parking system, security and safety has also been improved. All of the software written by APT Skidata integrates with existing CCTV cameras and customer help points, with data from each of the devices stored on the APT Skidata database.

Wayne has been extremely pleased with the ongoing support that APT Skidata has provided to City Parking (Glasgow): “We have now had all five of our sites upgraded to the APT 450 system and the installation went very smoothly; the system is operating well and we've had no problems,” he says.

“We have a couple of new sites coming online later this year and next and look forward to the continued support that APT Skidata can provide.”

APT Skidata is part of the APT Controls Group and supplies both car and pedestrian access control equipment. To date, it has made over 500 installations throughout the UK that include locations such as shopping centres, airports, theme parks and city centre car parks.
