APT ‘eases’ congestion for local residents in Southwark!
The Browning Estate in Southwark had been faced with persistent problems of illegal parking and unauthorised access, which had become exaggerated by the introduction of the London congestion charging and unauthorised parking by those wishing to avoid paying the charge.
They needed a solution that would allow legitimate residents ease of access and additional security with minimum inconvenience, but prevent unauthorised parking. Gates were considered but it was decided they would be inappropriate for this area, so the council contacted APT Security Systems, the UK’s leading vehicle access control company, for alternative solutions.
After assessing the site and the needs of both the council and residents, APT Security Systems were able to offer an ideal solution in the form of the Surface Mounted Road Blocker.
The Blocker is a robust but inoffensive-looking dynamic blockade that is far less vulnerable to vandalism than a barrier and is designed to accommodate all axle weights. Surface mounting the Blocker would substantially reduce the installation time, costs and disruption to residents of the estate and the council. The product design also ensures that arms and legs cannot be caught in the moving parts, minimising any risk of injury.
With a Surface Mounted Road Blocker positioned in each of the six entrances to the Browning Estate, access is controlled via proximity key fobs, issued to residents who are able to exit the site without restriction. The blocker can be raised and lowered in under five seconds and emergency vehicles have unrestricted access to the site, an important factor in assessing the right solution.
APT Security Systems Managing Director Tony Girard added: “The Surface Mounted Road Blocker has proved a very successful addition to the APT range. We are delighted to be working with Southwark Council and are very pleased to be having such a positive impact on this Estate.
