Belgrade Plaza chooses APT SkiData technology

As part of a £10 million refurbishment project, developers Oakmoor-Deeley and business partner CVOne have enlisted the help of APT SkiData to upgrade the parking technology at Belgrade Plaza’s newly renovated car park using its trusted APT 450 parking solutions including the Easy.Cash pay station.

Belgrade Plaza is said to be the largest and most exciting mixed-use scheme, which is set to change the face of Coventry’s city centre. The end result will see a combination of hotels, bars, restaurants, a casino, offices and a residential complex all with a need for additional parking.

The first phase, and an integral part of the scheme was the refurbishment of what was the Leigh Mills Car Park. This multi-storey car park, which is now called the Belgrade Plaza Car Park has been extended to provide five additional levels and now offers spaces for some 1,100 vehicles.

With the cosmopolitan feel that Belgrade Plaza aims to achieve, it was imperative that the car park is a comfortable and secure environment for visitors with a user-friendly parking system. The new parking solutions from APT SkiData comprises four exit and entry lanes, two of which are bi-directional, and the Easy.Cash pay stations. The Belgrade Plaza has its own central data centre for managing the car park and all of the management reporting is also routed through to Coventy’s central control centre at New Union Street.

Tony Golding at CVOne: “Much of Coventry’s local authority parking uses APT Skidata kit and although this is a private contract we knew them and had a good working relationship. We know that they are not the lowest cost but they are well-established and to my mind offer technology superior to their competitors in the market.

“The car park was the first phase of the Belgrade Plaza project and is the cornerstone for the other developments to follow. The car park is currently used by city centre visitors but as more elements come on line, like the hotels and casinos and hotel, the car park will be catering for a wider range of visitors with different needs.”

The Easy.Cash station offers reliable technology for users to make payments either in cash (banknotes and coins) or by credit and debit cards and also loyalty card. Should Chip and Pin be required, the Easy.Cash station is designed to accommodate the necessary user pin pad and the EMV control board. Easy.Cash uses Coder Unlimited, APT SkiData’s new automated ticket handling technology, making it possible to process all kinds of ticket type, including mag-stripe, crosswise barcodes and also lengthwise barcodes.

Easy.Cash is part of APT SkiData’s proven APT450 range and is ideal for all types of installations from citywide car park networks and retail shopping centres to airports and hospitals. The APT 450 software has been upgraded and now runs on Windows XP and all the visible hardware elements of the range are manufactured from high-grade steel, cast aluminium and polycarbonate and require only minimal maintenance. With regard to their aesthetics and design, they still reflect the company’s renowned attention to detail and modern approach, but now with a grey, silver and charcoal colour scheme.

Dermot Murphy, Managing Director of APT SkiData said: “The development is set to have a significant impact on Coventry’s city centre and visitors will expect to have an efficient and reliable parking system. Not only that but the CVOne site management car park management will be able to take advantage of APT SkiData advanced management reports – to see, for example, how and when visitors are using the car park – allowing them to be identify peak periods and how they should be managed.
