APT SKIDATA LAUNCHES NEW RANGE WITH ‘UNLIMITED’ SCOPE

A range of parking technologies designed to bring a new level of reliability, flexibility and control has been introduced by APT SkiData, the UK‘s number one parking technology specialists.

A development of its award-winning APT 450 technology, a key component of the new APT 460 range is the Coder unit with its modular design to allow easy access and servicing as Managing Director Dermot Murphy explains: “What clients expect in a parking revenue control system are ultimate reliability, uncomplicated handling and cost saving features for all components,” he says.

“It is out of this need, and as a natural progression in our development strategy, that the new APT460 range has been introduced.”

The Coder unit features single-slot processing of tickets in varying formats and paper types. It can print labels in any language with logos and images for promotional uses up to 300dpi. A double card escrow ensures high-speed processing of payment cards and reduced waiting times.

The unit is available in two versions: the basic Coder unit that handles barcodes and RFID technologies; and the Coder Unlimited that as the name suggests handles an unlimited variety of ticket types including mag-stripe, crosswise barcodes and lengthwise barcodes for optimum flexibility. Both have double ticket feeds, so that the tickets do not have to be changed as often, as Mr Murphy continues:

“A double fanfold ticket stock reduces the need to replenish by up to 50%,” he says. “Extensive field trials have shown that the Coder Unlimited handles in excess of 100,000 tickets without failure. If a problem should occur, jammed tickets can be removed within 30 seconds and whole components of the unit – and indeed the total unit itself - can be easily and speedily removed without the need for any specialist tools or training.

“Coder Unlimited has a number of intelligent features to make your life – and the life of your customers – a great deal easier,” Mr Murphy adds. “The device is self-monitoring and offers extensive remote maintenance capabilities. A shortage of fanfold stock at an intake, for example, is automatically reported to the control centre. This means that maintenance technicians can get to work when and where needed, being pro-active in preventing problems, rather than reacting after the event.”

As well as the Coder unit, APT SkiData has also upgraded its EasyCash pay stations to include a bill-to-bill recycling capability – enabling change to be given in banknotes as well as coins. This allows the unit to be considerably more compact and dramatically reduces the coin facility required, as Mr Murphy continues: “It is better for the customer and better for the parking operator,” he says. “The coin units can be smaller as they no longer need to contain as much change and do not need to be replenished as often. From the customer's point of view they no longer have to face receiving a large quantity of coins as change if they pay for a low value transaction with a banknote.”

“As with all of our innovations,” he concludes, “the emphasis is on reducing operating costs and enhancing the parking experience for drivers.”

Both the new Coder devices and EasyCash pay stations integrated with its upgraded range of exit and entry columns.
